NO FEE World Cancer Day 001.jpg
04/02/2021 Pictured is Emma Cassidy from Raheny, a Breast Cancer Ireland Ambassador, and her six week old son, Sam, in a photoshoot to mark World Cancer Day (4th February). Emma, who is a Triple Negative Breast Cancer survivor, is a symbol of Hope in the ongoing fight to find a cure for breast cancer through research, and Breast Cancer Ireland (BCI) today reveals further cause for hope with ground-breaking new developments in the treatment of Triple Negative Breast Cancers specifically. These research findings have uncovered a new usage for an existing drug (Dasatinib) - which shows promising potential as an effective treatment for TNBC when combined with traditional chemotherapy. 1.7 million women worldwide face a diagnosis of breast cancer each year, of whom 460,000 are in the EU and 3,100 are in Ireland. However, data shows that survival rates are improving year on year, currently standing at 85% with mortality rates reducing by 2% each year, and importantly, local control of breast cancer is improving year on year.
